Chris Horvath

Lead Pastor

I first joined the Waypoint team in 2002 as Youth Pastor, and in September of 2015, I stepped into the role of Lead Pastor which means I get to lead our church family in our mission, teach and preach God’s Word, and help equip leaders so that together we can live out the mission God has given us. I also serve by leading our youth ministry team.

For me, living out our mission starts with my relationship with God, I seek to live a life of surrender, transformation, and a commitment to living and loving like Jesus.

This shapes how I interact with my family, my church family, and the community I’m blessed to be a part of.  I love getting to meet and learn people’s stories. God’s been so good in my life, it’s a joy to share of His goodness each chance I can.

“He must increase, I must decrease.” – John 3:30

I was born in Detroit and have lived in Southeast Michigan for most of my life. I’ve lived in Clarkston since April of 2000. I earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan and worked for Ford Motor Company/Visteon for several years.

Then God called me into full-time ministry, and I went on to complete a Master of Divinity from Michigan (Moody) Theological Seminary in 2009. At graduation, I was honored to receive the Faculty Award for Excellence in Expository Communication.

I’m married to my wonderful wife Amy since April 2000. We have two amazing kids, Melanie and Ryan. When I’m not at church, you’ll probably find me enjoying photography, looking up at the stars, traveling, or just hanging out with my family.
