Lime kiln at Huggins Bay
In the 17 & 1800's stone was a major component in building construction. Massive boulders were held together with a cement made from limestone mixed with certain types of soil and water. Where fire resistance was needed for instance in the sugar mill chimneys molasses was added to the mixture. The most readily available source of lime was from coral rock and this lime kiln dating back to this period is still used today. Lime is however now used as a soil fertilizer and soil ph regulator.

Sugar Mill at Coconut Walk
Coconut Walk was a famous and beautiful recreational and agicultural area in the 1800's and earlier. There have been plans to restore this area to it's former glory and to serve as a sort of cultural/historical theme park, but due to financial limitations the government has not yet been able to carry out this project. Today you can see the remains of building and chimneys that once gave vibrancy and economic life to this area.
