BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

BART is a public transit system that has been serving the greater San Francisco Bay Area for the last 30 years or so. Its system route spans 35 miles west-to-east (from south west of San Francisco out to eastern Contra Costa County) and another 35 miles north-to-south (from Richmond down to Fremont). Originally designed as a "feeder" system for daily commuters heading into San Francisco, it includes a number of stops in the heart of "The City." Although critics of the system abound (with justification), BART does, at a minimum, provide a non-driver the chance to cover a wide expanse of the Bay Area on both sides of the San Francisco bay. Planning is essential with BART, however, since its stations are (relatively) few and far between and trains do not run with the frequency of, say, the Tokyo or London subway systems.

Included in this section are the waypoints for all 43 stations currently in the BART system. These points were gathered using street mapping software (that also reports long/lat information) along with the author's general knowledge of the Bay Area and the BART system. The points were verified for basic accuracy by re-reading them into Garmin's MapSource (GPS) software to confirm that the waypoint information *appeared* to re-create the locations in the correct locations.
