My wife, Carolyn, and I spent twenty-five months out of the last five years living and playing in the Chena River State Recreation Area. We became very familiar with the area, but always carried a GPS with us when we were out in the woods. Weather conditions could change quickly and finding one's way around in fog, clouds or snow is impossible without a GPS. The area is pretty rough and unforgiving if you venture off the established trails, especially in the winter. I considered the GPS an essential part of our survival equipment.

The following waypoints are located in the Alaska State Parks Chena River State Recreation Area.

The Chena River State Recreation Area is located 26 miles ENE of Fairbanks, AK.,
and encompasses over 250,000 acres. Information about and a map of the area can be found at the following URL: "http://www.dnr.state.ak.us/parks/units/chena/index.htm" USGS Topographical maps covering the area are:
1) NE quadrant = CIRCLE (A-5) QUADRANGLE Alaska (1951)
