Los Angeles National Forest - Located on top of Mt. Wilson and facing South, this small park has the grandest view of the Los Angeles basin. On clear non-smoggy days, you can see Santa Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands which are 58 and 76 miles away respectively. Skyline Park is open only on the weekends, between 10am and 4pm, and there is plenty of parking for those brave enough to come up. A 300 ton lava chunk that traveled down the side of Mt. Lassen after it erupted on May 19, 1915. It traveled 5 miles to its resting spot collecting rocks and slush on its journey. It is roadside with a plaque describing this unusual boulder that was still hot 40 hours after its landing.

Mt. Tamalpais State Park East Peak Trail
Trail looking north just below ranger station on the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais. At the very top the trail is quite rocky and narrow but two people may pass each other. The view from here is very panoramic. Most of Northern Marin County can be seen from here. As the trail winds around the East Peak; San Francisco Bay, the Pennisula, and the East Bay Area may be viewed. The trail is best hiked when there is little or no fog at the Golden Gate, or else the views may be hidden under the blanket of moisture. There is ample parking at the base of the trail, with restroom facilities and even a snack and gift shop.

Lake Hollywood Reservoir - Mulholland Dam

From the middle of the Dam you can see some of Hollywood's landmarks less than a mile away, but its difficult to navigate your way into the reservoir area.
